In the Name

July 11, 2018

This week, we celebrate Vacation Bible School by continuing a series Rescued by Jesus. Join us this Sunday as we tackle a new question. Please pray this prayer with me this week from Thomas More, while he is awaiting his execution (1535):

Give me thy grace, good Lord:
To set the world at nought;
To set my mind fast upon thee,
And not to hang upon the blast of men’s mouths;
To be content to be solitary,
Not to long for the world’s company;
Little and little to utterly cast off the world,
And rid my mind of all the business thereof.

“Living with Cancer” is a monthly support group for patients, survivors, caregivers and loved ones.  Next meeting: Monday, July 16, 7:00 pm at the Presbyterian church in Schaghticoke — north end of the long bridge on NY-40.  Questions?  Call  (Rev.) Ted Wright, patient and facilitator, at (240) 595-4511.  Cancer can feel overwhelming!

Last summer, a group from Brunswick Church attended the Global Leadership Summit and walked away with fresh knowledge, insight, and ideas as to how we can better serve our Lord, our community and ourselves. This annual summit is being held Thursday, August 9 & Friday, August 10 at Grace Fellowship in Halfmoon. The cost is currently $209 per person and there are discounts available for students, teachers, and veterans. Please contact Office Manager Colleen Lais if you are interested in going.

Pastoral Nominating Team

Last week in worship, we heard from the team, that has been hard at work discerning our path toward extending a call to an associate pastor in the future. We were blessed with Pastor Elizabeth, so their work is cut out for them, but this team is up for the challenge. We will receive updates as their work progresses, and there is info to share. In the meantime, keep these team members in your prayers, for wisdom and vision.

Chair Matt Clark, Jackie Borland, Gayle Driggers, Lisa Jeschke, Lisa Judd, Tony Kaddo, and Rich Scott.

This year, the kids of Vacation Bible School “Shipwrecked” are working towards a donation of seeds to needy families in Haiti. Did you know that Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere? In addition to drought and poor soil conditions, Haiti has been devastated by a massive earthquake and strong Atlantic Hurricanes. The end result of this is over 26% of Haitian children under the age of 5 suffer from chronic malnutrition. For every $10, children or adults donate (we’ve asked the kids to do chores to earn money for their donation), World Vision can give a family enough seed packets to feed a child for a year. By day 2 of VBS, we have already gathered over $150 dollars. Great offering everyone! That’s a lot of chores! To learn more, go to the World Vision website.

What should we call the BEB? We need a new name for our regular weekly communication tool. Please email Henry for any suggestions for a new name.

From our counters:  If you are using an envelope, please write your number (even better – also include your name!) on the envelope. We appreciate this, especially with cash donations. If you are writing a check, we ask that you also include the number on the memo line. These small steps help to ensure accurate recording.

Online giving can help support your intentions to maintain your commitment to serve others in our giving, even when life gets busy! Click here to learn more!

Important information for those who choose to give online. The system only allows donations to be set up for a specific period of time. Please be aware that once that time ends the donations will stop without notification. Some of our members have found that their tithing ended without their knowing. It is important to always review your scheduled donations and update the information with any changes in bank or credit card information. If you have any questions, contact Bob Schmidt at
